    James Chilvers

James brings a rules-based, structure-first approach to the markets, trading futures, commodities and ASX equities since 2020. A Certified Financial Technician, he applies a Dow Theory foundation and looks for confluence across market structure, price action, volume and multiple timeframes rather than relying on any single indicator. James is focused on helping students build a repeatable process they can trust, not chase individual signals.

    Professional Background

James started trading and investing at 21, right as Covid hit, and began studying the markets in earnest during the crash that followed. That timing shaped his approach early: rather than leaning on individual indicators, he focuses on the confluence between market structure, price action, volume and multiple timeframes to build a clearer picture of what price is actually doing.

James trades across a range of asset classes including index futures, commodities and equities, and holds the Certified Financial Technician (CFTe) qualification. He’s also continuing to develop his understanding of fundamentals, with the goal of blending fundamental context into his technical framework over time.

    Teaching Approach

James teaches a rules-based approach grounded in Dow Theory, with market structure and volume as the foundation of everything he covers. His multi-timeframe method gives students a fuller view of price behaviour, while a strong focus on risk and plan management keeps decision-making disciplined rather than reactive.

Psychology plays a central role in James’s teaching, alongside a consistent emphasis on developing a repeatable strategy students can rely on. Rather than handing students signals to follow, James encourages them to understand the why behind market moves, so they can make their own informed decisions with confidence.
